mg/km convert to ppm

how do i convert 50 mg/kg to ppm's when analyzing a lab test for lead?pls help me out! thanks

I'm confused as to what you have. 50 mg/kg is 50 ppm by weight, if that is what you want. Ppm may also be by volume or mole fraction, we'd need more info on the other part (that's not lead) if that's what you want.

But the title line says mg/km. For that we'd need to know what it is, like an engine burning leaded fuel, whether it is specified as ppm in the fuel or in the exhaust, fuel used per mile, etc. It is not just unit conversion but a moderately involved lab analysis.

What about converting mg/kg to ppm in lead paint?

Since there are 1 million milligrams in a kilogram, mg/kg is ppm on a weight/weight basis.
