I need a little help converting sq. feet of 57 stone to tons.
The retaining wall is 12' high x 10' wide x 530' long. I believe 57 stone has a density of 120lbs/cu. feet. I have taken 10' x 530', which is 5,300 sq. feet. Then I took the 5,300 x 12', which gives me 63,600 cu. feet. Then I multiplied the 63,600 cu. feet by the density of the 57 stone (120lbs/cu. feet), and got 7,632,000. I then divided the 7,632,000 lbs by 2000 to get a total of 3,816 tons. This doesn't seem correct to me. Any ideas? |

Are you sure one of those dimensions isn't inches? It would be unusual to build the wall ten feet thick out of stone, versus stone face with dirt or sand fill, even if you need the wall 10 feet thick (castle?)
If one dimension is inches, that would divide your number by 12. |

The formula for figuring 57 stone tonage is:
Number 57 stone density is 115 at our quarry Check with your local quarry first for their density but this should help, (ft) (ft) (density) (inches) length X width / 9 X 115 X thickness= ? / 2000 EXAMPLE 18'x12'/9x115x4"=11040/2000= 5.52 TONS |

Here is my proposition - it is also correct!
The formula is: (Lengh x Widthx Depth)(Density) / 2000 In order to find the volume, you must convert to one unit, for ex. ft. L= 2 ft W = 3 ft D = 2.5 in - conver in to ft: 2.5/12= 0.21 ft Density= 132 lb/cu ft 2000 = 1 ton (2x3x0.21)(132) / 2000 = 166.32/2000= 0.8 tons Thank you, |

length X width X depth gives you sq/ft. Divide that by 27 to convert into cubic yd. then multiply by1.54 for # 57 stone.
L W D sq/ft cb/yd 100' x 100' x 2' = 20,000 / 27 = 740.75 x 1.54 = 1,141 ton of # 57 |

length x width = sq. ft.
length x width x depth = cu. ft. cu. ft. / 27 = cu. yd. |
