Your prescription should include dosage instructions. Perhaps your doctor is changing your dosage.

However, 500 mcg = 0.5 mg. A microgram is 1/1000 of a milligram.

Question: ordered Dopamine 3mcg/kg/min. Your patient weights 220 pounds.
Available is Dopamine 400mg in 200ml. What is the rate you will set the pump at in ml/hr?

What a dog's breakfast of units. I sincerely hope this is a homework question and NOT the way real hospitals dose real people. It is silly to weigh people in pounds if dosing will be per kilogram; similarly minutes and hours.

However, 220 lb is about 100 kg, so 300 µg/minute are required. Since there are 60 min/hr, this is 18000 µg/hr, or 18 mg/hr.

18 mg/hr x 200 mL/400 mg = 9 mL/hr

If 1000 mcg = 1 mg,
then 100 mcg = 0.1 mg
