Multiply by the thickness in yards.

Sorry, the answer above just didn't make sense to me.

Below is the calculation we use every day in converting concrete from square yards (area calcuation) to cubic yards (how concrete is sold to us) in order to figure out how much we need for a job:

Take total amount of square yards x 9 x depth (4" or 6" or 8",etc) then divide by 324 = cubic yards.

So, for example,

160 sq yds x 9 x 8" thickness / 324 = 35.55 cubic yards of concrete needed for job.

For this equation you wil need to turn you acres into square feet, you will also need whatever your height in feet will be.

43,560sq.ft.=1 acre

43,560*(number of acres)*(height in ft.) / 27=cubic yards

for example:

43560*10=435,600*10=4,356,000/27=161,333.33 cubic yards

550 yd² x 4" x 1 yd/36" = 61.1 yd³

thank you very much for this! With your help I just converted 14.7 acres of 1 foot deep concrete into cubic yards.. yeah!
