Sounds like if we ever decided to emigrate, we'd have real problems, b/c of DS' condition (not life threatening BTW, as long as managed right!

You would have to really check into the situation.
But, many insurance companies do have pre-existing conditon clauses. |

Of course we'd have to win a decent amount on the lottery before we could even consider emigrating

Some insurance companies will wave the pre-existing clause if you can prove that you had insurance with your previous job, but I don't know if a national health care plan would qualify.
I know what you mean about a lottery, I've been saving towards a trip to Rome and to France next year. Every time I get a little ahead something always happens where I have to dip into my savings. |

No I don't think the British National Health Service is classed as a plan, though they take plenty from your pay packet to subsidise it!
Oh! If I could just win the lottery, doesn't have to be a jackpot, just enough for us to move and make a fresh start......... |

I know what you mean, I'd just love to move south a little to Monterey or Carmel. Many of my friends are moving there already the weather is so nice there. The beaches are nicer too. It's funny how much differance it makes in California when you go a few hours in either direction.

I've never been to the States, would love to come and visit though, even if we would never be able to afford to live over there.

With all the airline security measures I'm not sure if I would even want to fly anywhere for awhile. I've heard that you can buy your own bottled water after you get through security but for a long flight I would need more than the amount allowed of just lotion. You know how brutal the air is on a plane.

I didn't find security measures to be much of a hindrance a few months ago, and I don't think they've changed much since then.
Seriously, how prohibitive can security be if passengers are allowed to carry on screwdrivers up to seven inches in length?

They have a new rule on things like tootpaste, lotions, and even chap stick. You can only have a few items that are 3 oz. or less in a clear ziplock bag.
It makes it hard to travel if you will be in flight for more than a few hours. I think they are now allowing lighters. I guess you can buy bottled water after you get thru security, the little bottles of water they have on a plane are so small and I always get extra thirsty because of the dry air on the plane. |
