I Have An Area That Is 1600 Sqft That Needs To Be Asphalted
I Know I Need 31 Tons Of Stone @ 4" Thick But I Get Paid In Sqyrds For Stone. So How Do I Convert Sqyrds Into Tonage. ( Or If There Is No Formula How Would I Figure This Out) Please Send Any Helpful Info |

length in feet * width in feet = square feet
square feet / 9 = square yards |

YEs there is a conversion factor. Multiply your total SY by 1.6 (Avaerage for asphalt) THe lowest number for typical crushed stone is 1.4 with concrete (broken) 1.7. I added .2 for the oil binber product. Typical tri-axle dumps carry 18 - 20 tons depending on the state regs. so if you have an are of 100' x 200' and you want 4" deep you would. mult 100 x 200 = 20000 sf x .33 (4" / 12" = .33) this equals 6,600 sf. 6,600 sf / .27 (CY) = 24444. 24444 x 1.6 equals 39,111 tons. Hope this helps

square feet to yrds 1600 x .33 = 528 / 9 sf per yard = 58.66 or 59 yrds of material. Sorry misread earlier post,

SY x Depth divided by 18 equals tons.
The conversion factors don't mean a lot unless you are dealing with huge amounts of material this formula will be within tenths one way or another. |
