engine size liters to horsepower

HP = torque x speed / constant
Torque is a result of displacement and other factors like compression. You can convert metric displacement (liters) to english displacement (cubic inches), but that does not really tell you torque.
Sorry, no direct route between liters and HP.

the engine size cannot be converted directly to horsepower because there are other factors that need to be taken into account (compression ratios, etc) i am just not quite sure what all these factors are..
and alot of hp specs can be found at the maker's websites or sites like cars.com or possibly on kelley blue book

Hey, my house is 2,000 sq ft. How many bedrooms does it have? My fathers house is 4,000 sq ft, so it must have twice as many, right? FYI, mine has 4 bedrooms, my fathers has 3. Size does not matter, I'm sure your wife tells you that all time.

Look at this chart about a Chev 5.0L engine.

1978 160 235 w/4bbl.
1979 130 245 w/2bbl.
1979 125 235 w/2bbl.
1980 155 240 w/4bbl.
1981 150 240 w/4bbl

Over just a couple years the power rating ranged from 125 to 160. Emission standards, fuel system, electronic controls and compression ratio are just a few things that can contribute to power output. Do a Google search for what, specifically, you are looking for. Ex. "HP rating on a 2004 Durango 4.7L" and you will find your answer.
