calculate nM to nM/gram
please help. i've determined the concentration of a solution to be 4.3nM
This was done my taking 0.5ml of (1mg/mL) solution and combining to 2ml of another solution. so total volume was 2.5ml. after calculations, i get 4.3mM for that solution. how do i convert this to nM/gram of stuff? MW is 278. thanks

You started with 0.5mg of your material in 2.5mL. Resulting concentration is 4.3mM, or 4.3 millimoles/litre. (There are 1000mL in 1L) You have 2.5/1000 x 4.3 mmoles = 0.01075mmoles = 10.75nmoles in 0.5mg. There are 1000mg in one gram, so 1000/0.5 x 10.75 = 21500nmoles per gram. ps, i've noticed you have put 4.3nM in one place and 4.3mM in another place. 4.3mM (4.3 millimoles per litre) is 1000 times more concentrated than 4.3nM (4.3 nanomoles per litre). If you want a check, please can you post back with the correct units? Last edited by Mrs X; 06052013 at 12:49 PM.

Re: calculate nM to nM/gram
my resulting amount is nanomoles
so 4.3 nanomoles how do i convert this back to see it as nanomoles per gram? i weighed out 50mg into 50ml v.f. resulting in a 1mg/ml solution. from this, i took .5ml and added it to 2mls, so final volume was 2.5ml. i hope this makes sense

There are 1000mg in 1 gram You took 0.5mL of your 1mg/mL solution. Therefore you have 0.5mg of your material. You dilute it to 2.5mL. Assuming you test the whole 2.5mL, you have 4.3 nanomoles of your compound of interest in 0.5mg of your material. This is the same as 8.6 nanomoles in 1mg, which is equal to 8600 nanomoles in 1 gram.
