how many gallon in a round fuel tank

I have a round fuel tank I took off my dump truck. I would like to know how many gallons it holds. The tank in 26" high, 42" long and 91" around.

By round I am assuming its a cylinder not a sphere.
http://www.onlineconversion.com/obje...inder_tank.htm

If the 91" around is the circumference then:
diameter = 91" / Pi = 29"

Then using the above calculator we find that a cylinder tank with a diameter of 29" and length of 42 inches has a volume of 27741.8 cubic inches.

Now on the volume conversion page we find:
27 741.8 cubic inch = 120.094 372 29 gallon [US, liquid]

So its a great big 120 gallon gas tank.

Re: how many gallon in a round fuel tank

I would like to know how I can figure the number of gallons that are left in our fuel stoare tank.

The tank is round in front 38" and 92 inches long.

There is 7 inches of fuel in it.

How many gallons are left in the tank and I do I learn how to figure the problem.

Thanks, Tom

I think from your description that it is a partially full cylinder. We have a calculator for that:
http://www.onlineconversion.com/obje...nk_partial.htm

All dimensions must be in the same unit (inches) and the volume is in the cube of that unit (cubic inches). For US gallons, divided by 231 cubic inches per gallon.

Using the calculator:
Full: 104338.6 in³ = 451.7 gallons
7" of fuel: 13203 in³ = 57.2 gallons
Note: The full figure is physical volume, but a safe fill allows around 5% headspace for thermal expansion as temperature changes. Max safe fill would be around 429 gallons.
