Hello,
I have been trying to convert 416 c.y.( of gravel) into tonage & I'm unsure if I have done this right and I'm lookiing for the correct answer. So far I have taken 150*150/9= 2500 s.y * .08= 200 tons but for some reason it doesn't seem right. Please help.. |

Gravel, loose, dry - 1.28 tons/cubic yard
Gravel, w/sand, natural - 1.61 tons/cubic yard Gravel, dry 1/4 to 2 inch - 1.41 tons/cubic yard Gravel, wet 1/4 to 2 inch - 1.69 tons/cubic yard Depends on the type of gravel. I will show an example using loose dry gravel from the above list... 416 cubic yards * 1.28 tons/cubic yard = 532.48 tons (U.S. short tons) Just replace the density with the correct density from the list, depending on the type of gravel. |

8100 * 1.61 = 13041 tons (U.S. short tons) My uncle, who isn't a genius, but has been running an industrial rock crusher for 10+ years, would figure it out in his head and laugh at us. Nothing like hands-on experience to teach you something!

The density of wet snow vs. dry snow varies by a 10:1 ratio.
