Convert Land to Square Feet

What is the formula to convert a parcel of land to square feet?
I am currently trying to figure the square feet of a 4 sided parcel.
Side 1: 100 feet
Side 2: 158 feet
Side 3: 81 feet
Side 4: 135 feet

That is called an irregular polygon, and you cant calculate the area without also knowing the length of one of the diagonals.

We have to split the shape into two triangles and calculate the area of each.

Re: Convert Land to Square Feet

How do I find the square foot of a parcel of land with 4 sides and each side is a different dimension.

Example: North Side is 168.30'
East Side is 80.51'
South Side is 154.04'
West Side is 58.70'

What is the square feet of this parcel of land???

Depending on angles, those same dimensions can result in many different shapes (and areas). As Robert said in post #2, we need more info. That could be:
*One diagonal
*One corner angle, and which corner it is (relative to the sides)
*The bearing angles of each of the side lengths
(usually shown on real estate plat)

Given only the four sides, there is an expression for the maximum it could be, but it could be anything from that down to (almost) zero. Not very helpful. Without angle info, there is no guarentee it is the max for given dimensions.

The area of a four-sided figure also depends on the corner angles. IF it is a rectangle (all four corners are 90°), area is 100' x 150' = 15000 ft².

If the corners aren't square, it will be smaller and we would need the angles to calculate area.

Assuming a rectangular shape, it is 4757 square feet.
