Hi, there

im really stuck. I have an A1 at 1:10,000 scale, but i want only a tiny section of this map and it rescaled to 1:500, it would be preferable if it were able to fit an A3. how can i do this? does anyone know now to do this on autocad too?

any helop will be greatly appreciated

You have to enlarge it 20 to 1. This will be like looking at it with a microscope and you are likely to find it does not have the resolution to tolerate this degree of enlargement. Lines will get jagged, and details are probably not located with sufficient accuracy to be "true" after this enlargement.

The linear dimensions of an A3 sheet are half an A1, and you want 20:1 enlargement. Only 1/40th of the length (and width) of the A1 sheet will on A3 after enlargement.

Scale is not metric or customary, it is dimensionless. It is the ratio of a unit on the paper plan to the same units on the project. So 1" on the plan is 50" (or 4' 2") on the project. Of course, that is an inconvenient number, so 1:50 is nice for metric, 1:48 would be nicer in feet and inches. The magnification is often not EXACTLY right on copiers, so scale is always suspect. At least the principal dimensions should be shown on the drawn, and they can be used to determine actual scale as printed.

It depends. If the magnification was set to exactly reduce the 17" dimension to 11", it is 0.647X the original size. Multiply the scale by the reciprocal of that, 1.545. Often, the magnification is not set right. I would bnever scale off a reduced print unless it has a graphic scale (line with "project units" marked on it). If so measure with dividers against the graphical scale.
