Hello,

I am trying to calculate the weight in pounds of a solid powder. I have the specific gravity (2.38 @ 25 C (77 F)) and molecular weight (141.94). How do I convert molecular weight to pounds? Thank you in advance.

The specific gravity is the density of a substance as compared to water.

Water weighs 1 kilogram/liter so a SG of 2.38 means 2.38 kilograms/liter

Calculate the volume of the powder in liters, multiply by the density, and you get the kilograms. Then you can easily convert kilograms to pounds.

Thank you very much. I used a slight shortcut and just took the weight of water in pounds and multiplied by the specific gravity. Thank you for taking the time to answer my question. BTW I registered so that is why the name is different.
