Assuming solid metal, no air spaces, you can use this table of density of common metals (in kg/m³). For t/m³, divide by 1000.
http://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/me...ties-d_50.html

Pb 11.34 t/m³
Zn 7.135 t/m³
Cu 8.94 t/³
Just multiply by the volume.

Varies tremendously with quality of soil and dryness:

Good quality topsoil with high organic content: 0.95 t/m³
Low quality soil ( decomposed rock, mixes of sand, gravel, clay): 1.5 - 1.7 t/m³

If the soil is wet or damp, allow up to another 0.4 t/m³ for water, depending on wetness, for any of the above dry figures.

Without knowing what kind of soil you are getting, you really can't make a decent estimate.

Can you tell me where this was referenced from ? Laura
