How do you convert grams per meter square to pounds per ream. A ream being 3000sq/ft? Example 6gams per meter square to pounds per ream
How do you convert lbs per gallon from a density reading. Example 1.103 density? |

For the first conversion:
grams/square meter to pounds/ream grams/square meter to pounds/3000 square foot 1 gram = 1/453.59237 pound 1 square meter = 1/278.70912 (3000 square foot) 1/453.59237 / 1/278.70912 = 0.6144 grams/square meter * 0.6144 = pounds/3000 square foot grams/square meter * 0.6144 = pounds/ream In your example, 6 g/m² * 0.6144 = 3.6864 lb/ream (though only for 3000 square foot/ream paper) Density values are usually in units such as kilograms/liter so I will create the next conversion based on that, though you did not post what units the density readings were in. kilograms/liter to pounds/gallon 1 kilogram = 2.20462262184878 pound 1 liter = 0.264172051241558 gallon [US, liquid] 2.20462262184878 / 0.264172051241558 = 8.3454 kilograms/liter * 8.3454 = pounds/gallon In your example, 1.103 kg/L * 8.3454 = 9.2 lb/gal |

The material in question is barite. We had recently did a survey to validate our on hand quantity. The survey revealed 729 cubic meters or 950 cubic yards.
So the question is how to convert to metric tons or kilograms? Thanks James |

Hi, wrong thread, but here goes, hope you find this James.
Barite, aka baryte, is a form of Barium Sulphate, BaSO4. "Rocks and Minerals of the World" by David Cook and Wendy Kirk, gives the density of Baryte as 4.3 - 4.6. http://webmineral.com/data/Barite.shtml gives the density as 4.48. "SI Chemical Data" by Gordon Aylward and Tristan Findlay gives the density of BaSO4 as 4.5. I guess you have the mineral form, so as I posted in your original thread, you multiply the cubic meters by the density to get the weight in tons. 729 x 4.3 = 3135 tons. 729 x 4.6 = 3353 tons. You have about 3200 tons. "Rocks and Minerals" says it is used in the paint and paper industries and for oil drilling. Hope this helps. |

You can do those conversions here:
http://www.onlineconversion.com/weight_common.htm Enter the quanity, for example 850, then choose grams on the left list box and pounds on the right list box. 850 gram = 1.873929229 pound etc. |

Actually - and according to your first calculation, Robert - 850g/Sq M
would be 850 * .6144 = 522.24 lbs/ream (24" x 36" x 500sheets or 132,000Sq In |
