Hello all! Anyone else ever just wanna jump on a forum, specifically to talk about nothing specific? I'm sure there are other threads like this one, but I've yet to find one myself. So I decided to start a new one.

...This is it. :D

I would like to start off by saying Happy Halloween!!!!

Unfortunately, I'm not clear on how it all originally started, but it was a LONG time ago (hundreds of years, if I remember correctly...don't quote me on it).

Go to Wikipedia for more info. I'd put up the link for you, but I'm not allowed to yet.

But today, it involves kids dressing up as whatever the hell they want (princesses, horses, zombies...you name it), and they go around to people's houses, and these people give the kids candy. Halloween in most celebrated places usually involves haunted houses and anything else people can think of to scare people. All of this, which to some people would sound like pedophilia, is really fun, and most times, innocent.

I didn't know Australia didn't celebrate Halloween. Learn something new every day. :)

Most people love Halloween because it's a chance to decorate for another holiday and throw a big party and wear costumes from funny to scary. This year I worn a formal evening gown and a tiara. Last year I dressed as Jeannie in I Dream of Jeannie.

Lol true enough. This year my boyfriend did a half-assed job at a costume, and ended up as a homeless guy, wrapped in a blanket. Lol!

Personally, the only time I really make an effort to decorate and all that jazz, is Halloween. Haha! I mean, I'll put up a few lights for Christmas, but Halloween is the only time of year I put any work into it. :P

We didn't do anything fancy this year, due to lack of funds, but we're planning a full-out decoration for next year. :D

You guys forgot to tell Brenett the most important part of Halloween, well not the most important but like the icon for the day........Jack-O-Lanterns.
Halloween would not be right without them.

Holy hell you're right! Lol! We did forget about that! So yeah, another part of Halloween is, you get a pumpkin, scoop the guts out (bake the seeds if you wish...with the right seasoning they're very tasty), and cut a scary face or picture in the side of the pumpkin. Then you put a candle inside, so the face/picture lights up! It's fun! And also something we didn't do this year! Dammit! Lol

You didnt gut a gourd?
Wow I don't quite know what to say......it almost seemed like we could have some fun conversations, but now you reveal this?!? I am not sure you can call yourself an American anymore. LOL kidding :p

Did you know the purpose of lighting the scary face is to scare evil spirits away from your home? Makes me wonder how evil they really are if their scared of a Jack-O-Lantern.

LOL good thing I'm not an American :p

And good point about these so called "evil spirits"...afraid of pumpkins?.. Not cool. Although it would be a very effective marketing scheme...

"House being haunted? Buy a pumpkin!"

LOL :D

not american???

ohh *reads location* your close enough, make that 'call yourself North American" lol uhh maybe thats not right too, do they celebrate in South America?

Like the marketing scheme, I would buy it in a second! But if you had a gargoyle up there I would be putty in the realtors hands. :D

LOL I'm not sure about South America...I'll have to look it up...:)

Like I said, though, next year, we're going all-out. This year we were kinda really broke lol so we didn't do much...just bought a bunch of candy from the dollar store, of which we still have about 80% LOL. Didn't get many kids this year. Maybe 20...probably less.

This one little girl a few doors down was dressed up as a dog and kept barking at us LOL! It was so cute. And of course, we can't just ignore her. So we were meowing at her, and barking back, and it was just adorable. :p

I've seen some pretty crazy pumpkin designs...my favourite is still (I don't know if you've ssen it) the one where they carved the pumpkin so it looks like it's vomiting. LOL! They have the pumpkin guts coming out of the mouth of the face...very creative! If I was allowed ot post links yet, I would post a link to show you lol!

So RAD. has it gotten bitter cold in Canada yet?

Sandra
11-19-2008, 03:25 PM
Canada is such a cool place, do you do much skiing, snow boarding or ice skating?

radtastic_jenn
11-19-2008, 04:58 PM
Actually, we just got our first good hard snowfall today. I personally do not do much skiing or snowboarding. Not really my thing. As far as cold goes, it's currently about -3 celsius. Was something like -13 in the wee hours of this morning. LOL

If I owned a pair of skates, I might do some skating, but I haven't gone in years. I'd probably fall flat on my *** if I were to try it now LOL!

WolfEyes
11-19-2008, 07:52 PM
wow, it probably won't even snow here this year.

Sandra
11-19-2008, 08:04 PM
One of the best things about California is you can go up to the snow most of the time in the winter and then go back home where it's a lot warmer.

radtastic_jenn
11-20-2008, 10:03 AM
LOL I wish I had the money to go somewhere warm for the winter. You think I'd be used to it by now, but I still don't like the cold and the snow LOL

I live in seattle its cold and rainy 80% of the time.

We have our own color of gray....Seattle gray.
Thats depressing, most likely the reason we have more suicides here that anywhere else.

But i like it :) keeps the pansys away.
