What dimensions do you want the weight in, and what dimensions do you have already?

Hi,

I believe there is change in the calculating the GSM of the cloth ...

1] Cloth weight in GSM =[ EPI/Warp ct + PPI/weft ct ] x 25.6

using the above factors = [ 120 /45 + 60/45 ] x 25.6 = 102.14[GSM]
2] Oz. ounce per sq yard = [GSM/34 ]= 102.14 = 3.0.

Thanks/Regards

Do you mean the size is rounded off, or the towel itself is circular?

You need the area of the towel in square meters. If rectangular 0.68 m x 0.68 m = 0.46 mē. (If circular, multiply by pi/4, 0.36 mē.

Multiply by the weight of the fabric, 500 g/mē x 0.46 mē = 231 g.

It will use 231 g of yarn, but I don't know how to calculate length. It would depend on the yard diameter and other specifications.

if consruction is 45/45 120*60 and soft handle finish then GSM will be Reed+picks/count*23.4
120+60/45*23.4=93.6
if fabric in greige then plus 5% or
120+60/45*24.5=98

hi

The dimension of your towel is 68cmx68cm in 500gsm
The calculation goes as below:

Weight of towel=GSM x 0.68m x 0.68m
There for towel weight is =500 x0.68x0.68 =231.2grams

=(120/45*27.5)+(60/45*24.5) = 73.333+32.666 = 105.999

If you Weave a piece or a meter formula is given below

EPI X Width/Warp count X 0.00065 + Sized Pickup %+2 % of Warp Wastage = Warp GPLM

PPI X Width/Weft Count X 0.00059 + 3% Weft Wastage = Weft GPLM

Then,

Warp GPLM + Weft GPLM = 1 Mtr GPLM

100% ctn solid dyed poplin 40*40 / 120gsm 57/58"

Nasir

"Poplin" implies that the fabric is woven.

"40 x 40" is possibly the thread count per inch, but more likely per 10mm. Poplin is fairly fine. (Cheap lightweight summer fabric).

120gsm is the fabric weight in grams per square meter, and your fabric is 57 or 58 inches wide.

It wasn't obvious what you wanted to know from the question, what do you want to use the material for?

actually i want to know the fabric construction for 100% ctn solid dyed poplin for 40s*40s in 120gsm 57/58"

I think you have an incomplete spec. The 40s x 40s is half of it, a spec for the cotton thread using an obscure unit of cotton count. The s means single ply and 40 is the number of units, each 840 yd long, that equal 1 lb, ie 1 lb of thread is 40*840 = 33600 yd long.

You also need to know the threads per inch in the warp and weft directions. The two thread counts may be equal or different.

There is a formula in post #3 of this thread that gives gsm for cotton fabric with a complete spec, cotton counts and thread counts in both directions. There are competing formulas in posts #6, #13, and #23, which give slightly different results.

If I assume the thread counts are equal in the two directions (EPI = PPI), it can be solved backwards to get about 95 threads per inch in both warp and weft directions, but other constructions netting 120 gsm are possible.

If you are referring to post #48 (or earlier versions of that formula), the count it uses is unique to the fiber weights of cotton yarns. Unfortunately, each type of woven fiber (cotton, wool, linen, etc) seems to have its own scheme for determining fiber weight.

In 1 mē, the warp and weft threads are both a little over 1 m long because of the up and down weaving. You need to have a correction for that extra length and count the number of threads. You also need to know the weight of a single thread. A similar formula can be derived for other materials, but it has to consider the unique weight designation scheme for each fiber type.

Assuming the grammage is accurate
20 kg/ 300 g/mē = 66.7 mē
90" = 2.286 m, so
66.7 mē/2.286 m = 29.2 m

i know there is a way to convert fabric construction to weight

but i misplaced the formula can anybody help pls.

for egy if i want to know the weight of a fabric with construction

45X45 / 120X60 what shud i do ?

===========================================

That is the way, you can use to calculate fabric weight, such as below:

You should always know the width of fabric, finished either grey. For example you have finished width 90" = 229cm

Now, check below calculation to get fabric weight.

At first, you should get GSM (gram/square meter).

Count : 45 + 45 / 2 = 45 answer of count

Construction: Warp 120 + Weft 60 X constant 25.5 = 4,590 / 45 answer = 102gsm

Now, we try to get the weight of fabric through this calculation:

Cm : 100cm in one meter
Width of fabric : 229cm
GSM : 102 gram/square meter
Constant : 10,000

100 X 229cm X 102gsm
---------------------- = 233.58 = 234grm/Linier meter
10,000

You can even check, how much fabric you can load into 1X20ft container

1,000 / 234 = 4.27 X 10,000 = 42,735 (45,000 meters approx.)

Take 90,000 meters for 40ft and add 7% quantity for 40ft-HQ

If any confusion, than just get back buddy.

Thanks
