There are 1000 micrograms in 1 milligram. Your second vitamin is 100 times more than your first, if it has the same active ingredients. :)

HOW TO CONVERT MG TO MCG

Mrs X
03-07-2007, 12:36 AM
micrograms and milligrams are weights. There is 1000micrograms in 1 milligram. Liters and milliliters are volumes. There is 1000 milliliters in 1 liter.

20ug/mL is the same as 20mg/L

100mg/L is the same as 100ug/mL

Is this what you need to know, though?

Sir i am taken 50 gram of ash taken dillute the distiled water for 2 lit. The chloride constration taken as 50mg/l . How as calculate the constration of chloride?

Mrs X
03-07-2007, 12:25 PM
If I understand correctly, you have 50g of ash, which you have diluted to 2L. Your resultant Cl concentration is 50mg/L. If this is a homework question, or a lab assignment, I'm sure you can work this out for yourself, which is always much more satisfying, and you learn much more. Best of luck with you studies.

I have an oral syringe that is 1ml. Along the sides it reads .1, .2, .3, and soforth all the way up to 1ml. Between each number there are small hash marks ( 4 to be exact )

My question is, if I were to measure out 20mcg, where would I draw it up 2?

Any help would be appreciated.

Mrs X
03-19-2007, 05:14 PM
That would entirely depend on the concentration of your material. If this is medicine, either for yourself, someone else, or a pet, you need to get the pharmacist (or vet) to show you how much to use, and how to make sure there are no air bubbles in it.

5mg in mcg????
If it is just a straight conversion, then 5mg = 5000µg, as there is 1000micrograms in one milligram.

For medicines, the active ingredient can be dispersed in water, sweetners, thickners, and flavourings, so the concentration might be different to the weight. If you want more help, you can post back here with the actual substance you are interested in, and what form it is in.

Your prescription should include dosage instructions. Perhaps your doctor is changing your dosage.

However, 500 mcg = 0.5 mg. A microgram is 1/1000 of a milligram.

What a dog's breakfast of units. I sincerely hope this is a homework question and NOT the way real hospitals dose real people. It is silly to weigh people in pounds if dosing will be per kilogram; similarly minutes and hours.

However, 220 lb is about 100 kg, so 300 µg/minute are required. Since there are 60 min/hr, this is 18000 µg/hr, or 18 mg/hr.

18 mg/hr x 200 mL/400 mg = 9 mL/hr

how do you convert 0.8mg to ml?? thanks so much!

Depends on the density, or on the concentration of an active ingredient mixed in a buffer solution (most medicines).

If it has the density of water, 0.8 mg is about 0.0008 mL.
(But for a medicine, that would only be the active ingredient, not the buffer)

Yes, it is. µ is the official symbol assigned to micro in the International Symbol of Units. However, the American medical profession prefers mc. When scrawled in a prescription, there is a concern the (poorly) handwritten µ can be mistaken for an m.

1. Ordered: 300mcg
On hand: 0.15 mg tablets

You need to understand the relationship between micrograms and milligrams
1000 mcg (1000 µg) = 1 mg

So each 0.15 mg tablet is 150 mcg.

I have two values that I am trying to compare.

I have 6.0 mg/kg and need to compare it to 5 mg/L. Is the later less than the former or visa versa?

If the solutions are dilute aqueous solutions then the density is about 1 kg/L, and the 6 mg/kg is the larger value. Otherwise, you need to make a density correction. If you know the density of the first mixture, you can multiply by it to convert to mg/L and compare. Alternatively if you know the density of the 2nd mixture, you can divide by it to convert to mg/kg and compare. Without one of the densities (or at least an approximation) you can't really say.

How long did each administration last? Please list math out so I can calculate in the future myself. Thanks!!

Senario 1
Time: 1315 Agent 1:cortrosyn 0.25 mg/1 ml Dose: 250mcg Route: IV Rate: slow push ml/hr
Time: 1315 Agent 2:leuprolide acetate 1 mg/0.2 ml Dose: 660mcg Route: IV Rate: push ml/hr

Senario 2

I'll have a go at the first one, you can post back and try the others if you like.

Your patient needs 250µg total. At the rate of 1mL/hr, you are delivering 0.25mg/hr, or 250µg/hr

The delivery time is 1 hour

Does this make sense, or is the med pump rate different to 1mL/hr?

How many mls do you draw into the syringe if the prescription asks for 200 mcg and the vial contains a solution of 10 mg in 1 mls

10 mg/mL = 10000 mcg/mL

You need 200 mcg, so
200 mcg x 1 mL/10000 mcg = 0.02 mL
(can the syringe measure such as a small amount accurately?)

no, 1000mcg is = to 1 mg so one vitamin only has 1 mg while the other has 100 mg. If your urine turns bright yellow you are taking too many vitamins and your body is not absorbing the extra so cut back if that happens.
