I am looking at buying some top soil. What I need to know is how many yards are in a ton and how many sqauare feet are in a yard?

I found this information on reade.com

Earth, loam, dry, excavated - 78 pounds/cubic foot

1 ton = 2000 pounds
2000 pounds / 78 pounds/cubic foot = 25.64 cubic foot
25.64 cubic foot / 27 = 0.94 cubic yard

So for dry earth, figure about 1 yard per ton.

Now for how many square feet, it would depend on how thick you spread it.
