Can you help me with sewing machine needle sizes? What is the UK system based on and in what metric system? THanks!!

I found a printable needle size chart. It does not provide information on the sizing systems, but it does convert between them.

Hi, check this out for info on sewing machine needles as well:
http://www.singerco.com/resources/needles.html
Gives the equivalent sizes, and what sort of fabrics they should be used on. Doesn't say what the systems are based on, though.
Is it for a sewing project though, or for a theoretical assignment? If the latter, there may be a help desk at one of the manufacturers' websites who can help.

Hi. I’m trying to locate some overlock needles for my mum. She’s got an old machine, Willcox & Gibss Type 504/II-45. The needles it takes are UY 154 GAS curved 3 thread size 70/10. I think Organ, Schmetz and Groz-Beckert make them but I’m having loads of trouble locating them. Can anyone help; maybe recommend a shop in London or on the internet which sells them. Many Thanks.

If Schmetz makes them, then you can order them directly from their website at: http://www.schmetz.com/
I believe they will have a toll free number for orders also.
Luckily needles are small so shipping to London wont be too bad if through the postal service.
