I have been reading the benefits of flax and fish oil for various health issues, but the dosages are vague and otherwise non-specific. What I was wondring is, if you use the oil in up to 2T./day, then how many 1000mg capsules is that equivalent to (for those who may'd rather take the caps)?

Thanks,
Steve

A metric teaspoon holds 5mL, a metric tablespoon holds 15mL.

Oil has a density of about 0.8g/mL, so a tablespoon holds about 12000mg. I'm sure you don't want to take 24 capsules each day!!!

Flaxseed oil is the same as linseed oil, I looked up the latin name of the plant they come from. We give our dog about 0.5 teaspoon a day to stop her having a really strong doggy smell. Flaxseed oil is purported to help with arthritis, but if you read the medical studies, the benefits are not proven. The omega 3 that comes from the linus plant is in a slightly different form from that in fish oils, and is maybe not as easily used by the body.

I generally use WebMD anytime I need information on vitamins or drugs.

You can search for flaxseed or fish oil or whatever and find not only the drug information sheets, but also many articles on any studies about the drug.

You are welcome! :o The dog still doesn't have arthritis. And still LOVES to smell bad. (She is now 6.5 years old.)

This source says 7.5 g and gives some breakdown. Lecithin can be derived from many sources, so the nutrient breakdown may depend on what it is derived from and vary between brands. Read the nutritional label.
