View Full Version : Unidentified flying Objects have fascinated us all for many decades
Are they real? Do they have a sinister purpose? Do their occupants come from one star system far away or from many? Do they abduct unwilling people? have you seen Unidentified flying Objects (UFO) share your experience with us.  :(

I thought I saw one years ago but then I saw something at an air show that moved like it. Great topic, I hope others add something to this. For some reason this topic has always interested me.

I'm also fascinated with the whole UFO topic. I've never seen one and doubt I ever will.......at least I hope not. That's based on human behavior
Looking through history on this planet the higher technology from cavemen on have contaced others for mostly one reason....conquest. I can't imagine another life form travelling light years to get here just to say hello. Damon Knight's story,"To Serve Man" is probabaly as accurate a portrayal as we'll see as an answer to "What if?"
I do believe there's other life out there. I just hope it stays there.

Are you talking about a science fiction story where in the end to serve mankind turns out to be a cookbook?

That's the story that was portrayed so well on "The Twilight Zone."

I used to watch the Twilight Zone, One Step Beyond, Outer limits and all kinds of great science fiction. Sometimes I get a chance to watch a repeat of Twilight Zone..

I enjoy science fiction (a lot), but I don't believe aliens are really visiting us.
It is likely there are other habitable planets out there, and alien life forms on them, possibly advanced aliens.
We have investigated our own solar system pretty well. There is no advanced life anywhere else in it, and no alien bases on the back of the moon, etc. Any aliens coming here have to cover inter-stellar distances.
Our science says Faster Than Light (FTL) travel is not possible. It could be wrong, but to come here from other stars, aliens either need FTL or a much different sense of time scale. Even if they travelled in suspended animation, getting home to find all their friends and family dead would be a major downer. Spending all that time to come here just to capture and anally probe a human or two and go home just doesn't make sense. Even at light speed, the nearest star (unlikely to have habitable planets) is almost a nine year round trip.

Just think how much fun it really is to talk about things like this.
I love good science fiction and sometimes just because we can't understand how something is possible doesn't make it impossible. Look at how many things we have invented over the past 100 years.
In the mean time I still will catch a good show on the sci fi channel once in awhile.

I agree with that. Not knowing how to do it is one thing. Believing the laws of physics say it can't be done is another.
Certainly we have discovered our "laws of physics" are wrong or at least need extension. However, there are no cracks in Einstein's theory of relativity yet. (but admittedly, it added some corrections to classical Newtonian physics)

now don't spoil the fun with all those facts :D ;)
science fiction can be lots more fun than the facts :)
Actually it's always nice to get your input on some of these threads, I hope you join in more often. :)
Remember back in the day when we thought that Maxwell Smarts shoe phone was like so way cool. ha ha ha
I predict in the near future there will be new discoveries that shock all the scientists.

True, and I can suspend my disbelief so I can enjoy a Star Trek movie or whatever, complete with warp drive.

I'm a life long science fiction fan and to this day still read whatever Ace Doubles I can get my hands on. A recent favorite author is Canada's Robert J. Sawyer. All time favorites include Harlan Ellison, Cliffford Simak and Philip K. Dick.
Sandra:
I also watched a lot of science fiction TV. You may enjoy bringing back memories with this:

acording to OUR understanding of science: one can not travel the speed of light because the faster you go the "heavier" you get at the speed of light you would simply colapse in on yourselves:eek:
also they could top seceret military projects, possible from area 51
i do belive in E.T. stuff, there is life on mars (bacteria) and plus the galaxy is HUGE, let alone the universe. and just maybe they have found a way to get around einstin's theory(above)
